Chem 111 Qualitative Analysis

Please watch the following videos before you even read the lab manual for the Qualitative Analysis experiment.  All videos are available in full HD quality and can be viewed in full screen.  Your lab instructor will not be demonstrating any of these techniques in-class, to give you more hands-on time during the lab session.  Accordingly, you are responsible for viewing these videos before the lab session begins.

Instructional VideoTechniques Video (32:16)

This video shows the general setup of the experiment and a number of the techniques that students will use during the experiment.  This includes preparation of glassware, usage of reagent bottles, mixing of chemicals, usage of the various types of centrifuges and how to separate a precipitate from a solution, washing of precipitates, how to use litmis paper, transfer of the unknown, creation of H2S gas, boiling away of H2S gas with subsequent testing by lead acetate, and final cleanup.  Recommended viewing at 1.5x speed, as the narration is fairly slow-paced.
