Links Mostly Useful to Second Year Chemistry Students

These links are primarily to assist students in obtaining physical properties of organic chemicals from sources on the World Wide Web. A few links are given here with a brief description of each. They are not the only links available! If you are obtaining information from these links, you must cite the source, i.e., the complete URL should be given as a reference to the information you retrieved.

ChemSpider- Search and share chemistry
ChemSpider is a free chemical structure database providing fast text and structure search access to over 30 million structures from hundreds of data sources.

ChemExper
Manages and provides chemical information, including physical properties, MSDSs, spectral information, 3D models, NMR prediction, safety information, etc

The Chemical Database
Department of Chemistry at the University of Akron. A resource of chemical information incuding technical and safety data as well as related compounds.

Chemical Land
A searchable resource of physical and chemical information on chemicals.

National Toxicology Program
A searchable database for chemicals from the US National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. Not the most user-friendly database. E.g., entering the chemical name, "toluene" produced 200 hits, presumably of chemicals containing the word "toluene." Remember that this is a United States reference and Canadian information on Toxicology, Handling/Spill Procedures/First Aid Information may not be applicable under Canadian legislation. Physical Properties Toxicology Information Handling Procedures Spillage Information First Aid Information Safety Hazard Information Spill/Disposal Information.

NIOSH International Chemical Safety Cards
An index of chemicals providing safety information and physical properties from the US National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. Remember that this is a United States reference and Canadian information on Toxicology, Handling/Spill Procedures/First Aid Information may not be applicable under Canadian legislation. Physical Properties Toxicology Information Handling Procedures Spillage Information First Aid Information Safety Hazard Information Spill/Disposal Information

NIST Web Book
The NIST WebBook provides access to the full array of data compiled and distributed by the US National Institute of Standards and Technology . Good Synonym provider Thermodynamic Data IR Spectra (gas phase) Mass Spectra UV/Visible Spectra Solubility.

Sigma-Aldrich On-Line MSDS Help
MSDS information from this respected supplier of popular and rare chemicals. Users may have to register for access and then login on subsequent visits. It could be worth the time registering. Remember that this is a United States reference and Canadian information on Toxicology, Handling/Spill Procedures/First Aid Information may not be applicable under Canadian legislation.
