Chem 111 Online Exp: Kinetics Int. Rate Law
PreLab Quiz
Please first login to eLearn for your CHEM 111 lab section.
From there, select the Exp #2.2 Kinetics tab and then click on the Quiz link shown. Follow the instructions for the quiz. You will have 20 minutes to submit once you start the quiz. The closing deadline for submission is shown at the top of the quiz, and will be around midnight of the same day that you normally would perform the experiment. This quiz is worth 4 of the 9 marks allocated to this online activity.
Online Experiment
Once you have submitted the quiz, you have until 11:00 AM of Tuesday January 31, 2024 to submit your lab report to the hallway dropbox for your section. More information on submission of the lab report is given at the bottom of this webpage.

Watch the three videos for this experiment.
Please watch them in the order of: (1) PreLab Talk, (2) The Experiment, (3) Graphs and Calculations. If for some reason you can not get to the videos, links have been posted on eLearn under the Exp 2.2 tab.
Either click on the video title or picture shown below to watch the video in YouTube. A quality-setting of 720p is usually available.
When finished with the videos, you will need to obtain the lab report sheet, your raw data, and look at your graphs onscreen. You will also need to use the Excel file "KIN2_Arrhenius_Plotter" that was emailed to you, or download from this webpage. Then perform calculations and submit your completed report. The report is worth 5 of the 9 marks allocated to this online activity.

Lab Report Sheet
A paper hardcopy of the 2-page report sheet is available for printing at home using this link. If you do not have a printer at home, you may complete the "fillable PDF format" version, save it, and then print it out the next time you are on campus for submission by the deadline. Raw
Data Find your locker number below and record your three temperatures onto the lab report sheet. These will need to be converted to Kelvin as per the lab manual.  Kinetics Graphs Obtain your five graphs by clicking on your locker number below. You will need these graphs to finish the lab report sheet, as discussed above in Video 3 and the lab manual. These graphs do not need to be printed. Just take a look at them on-screen. Remember, Graph 5 can be skipped. |

KIN2 Arrhenius Plotter Excel File Your lab instructor might have already emailed the required file to you. It can also be downloaded by clicking on the link or icon below. Once downloaded, open in Excel and use as instructed in the Treatment of Results section of the lab manual. link to MS-Excel file  If you do not have MS-Excel at home, note that all CapU students have access to MS-Office 365 apps, as described by clicking on the link or icon below. Submission of Completed Lab
Report There is only the lab report sheet and the Arrhenius Plot to submit. Please have these two items stapled together. Please submit your completed lab report in the drop-box in the hallway outside of the lab room. Reports are all due by 11:00 AM of Tuesday January 31, 2024. |
