Chem 101 Online Exp:          Significant Figures

This covers all the content of Exps 1 and 2 that was removed from the in-lab session and shifted to this online lecture.  Also covered here is the last section of Experiment 3 which has also been shifted out of the in-lab session.

Student calculations on all lab reports (both in-lab and online) will be assessed for correct use of significant figures, with deductions being applied when in error.  Students should already be familiar with correct usage from prior high-school science courses.  Various sections of experiments #1 and #2 in the Chem 101 lab manual focus on these topics and are presented as a refresher.

Students should read those topics and attempt all the fill-in-the-blank "try it" sections shown on pages 15, 17, 19, and 28 of the current 23rd edition of the Chem 101 lab manual.  If you have not already done this, please attempt all of that work before proceeding with this online experiment.

Students should also read page 43 of the lab manual "Significant Figures and the Percent Difference Calculation" and attempt Sample Problem #3 (on page 44).

The video below reviews all of these pages and provides the answers.
