Chem 110 & 154 Gravimetric Analysis
The following videos should be viewed as part of your preparation for the Gravimetric Analysis experiment. All videos are available in full HD quality and can be viewed in full screen.
If you have not already done so, you should FIRST view the videos from the orientation session because they provide a good foundation for the Gravimetric Analysis experiment.

Laboratory Measurements - Mass
(6:27)
Measurement of mass in the laboratory may have been mentioned very briefly in the first (Orientation) session. But you will need to become proficient in analytical weighing at your first Gravimetric Analysis laboratory session. This video gives a brief but comprehensive overview on the subject of mass measurment in the lab and will serve as a good preparation for this experiment.

Quantitative Transfers (4:55)
This video gives a brief overview of the importance of quantitative transfers of solids and liquids, a technique you will need to master in the Gravimetric Analysis experiment as well as in future experiments. Note - for this experiment, only the first half of this video is applicable - quantitative transfer of solids.

Vacuum Filtration - Apparatus Set-up (4:55)
When students have to construct a vacuum filtration apparatus for the first time, the process can seem daunting, despite the instructions and diagrams given in the laboratory manual and despite the demonstration set-up in the laboratory. By viewing this short video ahead of time, the task of setting up this apparatus is made relatively simple.

Vacuum Filtration - Analytical (6:46)
This video is focussed on analytical vacuum filtration. Since a significant proportion of marks in the second part of this lab are given for accuracy, it's well worth checking this out ahead of time so that you are aware of the proper techniques to use in this operation. Only by applying the prescribed techniqes, will good results be achieved.
