Chem 154 Titrimetric (Volumetric) Analysis

The following videos should be viewed as part of your preparation for the Titrimetric Analysis experiment.  All videos are available in full HD quality and can be viewed in full screen.

If you have not already done so, you should watch the previous videos associated with the Orientation Lab Session and the Gravimetric Analysis experiment since some of the techniques covered in those labs are also applicable to the Titrimetric Analysis experiment.

Tutorials relating to selected study guide problems and treatment of results can be accessed here: Instructiona Tutorials Link

The Volumetric Pipette (5:46) - View before Exp 2.1

This video applies to both experiments on Titrimetric Analysis. See a demonstration of how to prepare and use a volumetric pipette in the chemistry lab.

Cleaning Rinsing Loading and Reading a Burette (9:21)                                                              - View before Exp 2.1

This video shows how to clean a burette prior to use, how to displace the residual water inside by rinsing it with 5 mL portions of the chemical to be used, how to safely and correctly load a burette once rinsed, and finally how to take the initial burette reading.

Titrimetric Analysis (12:38)  - View before Exp 2.1

This video shows all the techniques for how to perform a titration for a Capilano University chemistry experiment, including use of a magnetic stirrer, adding indicator, adding titrant rapidly, slowly, dropwise, and by half-drops to reach the endpoint. This video assumes that you have already watched the "Cleaning Rinsing Loading and Reading a Burette" video prior to watching this one.

Preparation of a Standard Solution (7:23) - View before Exp 2.2

This video applies to the second experiment on Titrimetric Analysis, Determination of Molar Mass of an Unknown Acid. Titrations often involve the preparation and use of a standard solution; a solution of precisely-known concentration. By following the prescribed techniques shown in this video, the chemist can be assured of an accurate result.
